Welcome to Your Cake Smash Photoshoot Experience!
Thank you so much for booking your session with me! I’m excited to help you celebrate this special milestone in a fun, playful, and unforgettable way. Cake smash shoots are all about messy giggles, sweet moments, and capturing your little one’s unique personality as they explore, play, and dig into that cake!
To make sure you feel fully prepared, I’ve put together a little guide to help everything go smoothly on the day of your shoot.
What to Expect
Your Cake Smash Session is all about capturing your little one’s big personality!
Session Length: These fun-filled sessions usually last around 1–2 hours.
Setup & Theme: We’ll create a beautiful, custom setup based on the theme or color palette you choose. You can choose between a studio session or an outdoor session in our garden – both offer gorgeous backdrops for playful and memorable photos.
What We'll Capture: We’ll start with some sweet portraits of your little one (before the cake comes out.) and also include a few family or sibling shots if you'd like. Then it's time for the cake smash – the messy, joyful part where we let your little one explore, play, and dive in at their own pace.
Pacing & Breaks: Every child is different, so we follow their lead throughout the session. We'll take breaks if needed to keep things calm and fun, and you’re welcome to bring snacks or comfort items to help them feel relaxed and happy. Some little ones, especially those around one year old, aren’t always used to cake or sweet treats yet, so we might need to be a bit patient as they warm up to the idea of digging in and enjoying the cake.

Preparing for Your Session
Clothing & Preparation for Your Cake Smash Session
To make your Cake Smash session as comfortable and fun as possible, here’s what to keep in mind:
Outfits: Bring two sets of clothing for your little one — one for the clean portraits and family photos, and another for the messy cake smash itself.
Extras: Don’t forget to pack wet wipes and a towel or small blanket to help clean up after the smash—there will definitely be some mess!
Family Photos: We’ll start with some beautiful portraits of your child along with parents and siblings before moving on to the cake smash portion, so everyone should be dressed and ready for the family shots first.
Makeup & Hair: If you’d like professional makeup and hair styling for yourself, you can book that as an add-on before the session. Otherwise, please come camera-ready or with your own touch-up makeup for the shoot.
Feeding & Energy: If your little one is on a feeding or nap schedule, try to plan the session so you arrive at least one hour after they wake up from their nap. This gives them time to be rested and energized to shine in front of the camera.
Snacks & Comfort: Bring snacks and drinks for your child and family to enjoy before or after the shoot to keep everyone happy and relaxed.
Comfort: Choose outfits for everyone that are comfortable and coordinate well together — solid colors or subtle patterns work best to keep the focus on your little star!
Outdoor Sessions: If your session is outdoors, dress accordingly for the weather and consider bringing layers or a jacket for your child and family.
During the Session
Take It Easy: We’ll go at your little one’s pace and keep things relaxed. If you or your child need a break, just let me know!
Be Patient: Some little ones, especially around one year old, might be unsure about cake and sugar. If you have time before the shoot, gently introduce them to sweet treats so they get used to the taste. The goal isn’t to have them eat the whole cake—just to enjoy the experience without too much sugar.
Cake Tip: Soft buttercream icing works best for smashing and photos. Hard icing or fondant can be tricky to break and less fun for your child.
Natural Moments: I’ll capture all the curious, messy, and joyful moments as your child explores the cake. Feel free to interact, cheer, and enjoy watching their reactions!
Including Your Loved Ones
Your Cake Smash session includes a lovely family photoshoot, so your partner, siblings, and grandparents are more than welcome to join the fun!
If you’re bringing young kids along, it’s a great idea to bring a favorite toy, snack, or something special to keep them entertained and comfortable while we focus on the cake smash part. This helps keep the mood relaxed and happy for everyone.
Matching outfits look beautiful in photos but don’t worry about being perfectly coordinated — wear something you all feel comfortable and confident in. We also have space on site if anyone needs to change before or after the shoot.
For the best family photos, I recommend:
- Keeping everyone well-rested and fed before the session
- Encouraging natural interaction rather than stiff poses — candid moments often shine brightest!
- Bringing along your warmest smiles and plenty of patience — kids can sense when things are relaxed and fun
- Letting me guide you gently through poses and groupings so everyone feels included and comfortable.
Family Members Limit & Additional Charges
Our Cake Smash sessions include up to four family members. If you’d like to include more than four people, there will be an additional charge.

Most of our Cake Smash sessions take place at our venue in Randpark Ridge, Gauteng, and I’ll share the exact address with you closer to the date of your shoot.
Studio & Garden Options:
You can choose between our indoor studio setup, styled to match your theme, or a beautiful outdoor garden shoot if you prefer a more natural setting. Both options offer a relaxed, private space perfect for capturing your little one’s big moment.
Parking:
Free parking is available on-site for your convenience, so you and your family can arrive easily and stress-free.
Have another location in mind?
If you’d like to host your Cake Smash session at your home or another venue, I’m happy to travel. Please note that a travel fee may apply for locations more than 50km from Randpark Ridge.
After the Session
Album Turnaround
Your edited images will be ready in 2-3 weeks. Each photo is thoughtfully edited to ensure it’s perfect, highlighting every beautiful moment.
Sneak Peeks
After about 2 weeks, we’ll send you a sneak peek to give you a preview while we put the finishing touches on your full gallery!
Minimum Images
You’ll receive a minimum of 30 edited images, each carefully crafted to tell the story of your beautiful journey.
