Welcome to Your Matric Dance Photoshoot Experience!
Matric dance season is such an exciting and unforgettable time—filled with anticipation, laughter, and so many special moments.
Thank you for choosing me to capture this milestone for you. Whether it’s your solo portraits, photos with your date, family moments, or a full pre-drinks celebration, I’m here to make sure your experience is relaxed, fun, and truly memorable.
To help you feel fully prepared and confident, I’ve put together this guide with everything you need to know for your matric dance session.
Session Length:
Matric Dance sessions typically last 1-2 hours, giving you time to settle in, relax, and truly enjoy being together without feeling rushed.
Your matric dance session is all about capturing your personality, your style, and this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Every matric dance session is a little different, and I tailor each one to suit you—whether it’s individual portraits, photos with your date, family photos, or a full group/pre-drinks setup.
We usually start with individual portraits while everything is still fresh and perfect, and then move into photos with your date, family, and friends.
I’ll guide you through the entire session—from posing to placement—so you don’t need to worry about what to do. Nothing will feel stiff or awkward, we keep it natural, relaxed, and fun.
Your Vision & Inspiration:
If you have a specific vision, mood, or inspiration for your session, I’d love to hear about it. Feel free to share ideas, Pinterest boards, outfits, or anything that reflects the style you’re drawn to. And of course, you’re always welcome to ask questions beforehand — I’m here to help you feel fully prepared and excited for your shoot.
This is your moment to shine, and you deserve to feel amazing. Make sure your dress or suit is fully ready, fitted, and steamed beforehand, and try everything on before the day, including your shoes and accessories. It’s important to fit everything beforehand so you feel comfortable and confident, and to make sure nothing needs last-minute adjustments.
Also, walk your shoes in before the day—this makes a big difference in comfort for both the girls and the guys, especially with all the standing and walking (trust me, no one wants brand new shoes halfway through the day).
If you’re doing your hair and makeup, give yourself enough time in the morning so that everything is done calmly and you’re ready for your photoshoot in the afternoon without feeling rushed.
Make sure to check what time your event starts and plan to leave at least 45 minutes before, keeping in mind the distance between your photo location and your venue to allow for traffic.
Have your hair and makeup fully done before the session starts, and for final touches, make sure your nails are clean, avoid hair ties on your wrists, and bring along lipstick or powder for touch-ups if needed.
If you’re being picked up by a car, please let me know in advance, as we can include this as part of your shoot and capture some really special moments with it.
The most important thing is to relax and enjoy the moment. This is such a special milestone, and the best photos come from genuine smiles, laughter, and natural interaction.
I’ll guide you through everything—how to stand, where to look, what to do with your hands—so you never feel unsure. If you’re with your date or friends, I’ll also help create natural moments so nothing feels forced.
Matric dance sessions can be a little more fast-paced, especially with group or pre-drinks setups, but I’ll keep everything flowing smoothly so we capture all the important moments without it feeling rushed.
Your matric dance session can take place at your home, at your venue, or at a separate location if arranged beforehand. If you’ve chosen to do your shoot at our location, there is safe parking available for multiple cars, as well as a beautiful driveway that works perfectly for photos—especially if you’re being picked up. We’ll just need to keep a bit of space open in the driveway for those final moments as you leave, so if you’re bringing your own car, please make sure it arrives last and parks at the back.
If you’re planning a session at your own chosen venue or location, please ensure that you have permission from the venue for photography to take place on the premises. Please also note that any entrance fees, permits, or location hire costs are not included in the package and would need to be arranged directly with the venue if applicable.
If you’re planning a pre-drinks setup, please make sure the space is tidy and photo-ready before I arrive. I will also be capturing detail and decor shots, so any styling elements you’d like photographed will be included in the coverage. Natural light always helps, but I’ll work with any space to create beautiful images.
Matric dance is also about celebrating with the people who’ve supported you along the way.
We’ll capture a mix of family photos, including individual moments with parents, sibling photos, and full family shots. If there are any specific combinations you’d like, please let me know beforehand so we don’t miss anything.
When it comes to your date and friends, we’ll capture both posed and candid moments. Group photos are always fun, full of energy, and often a little chaotic—in the best way!

A Few Helpful Tips
Try to plan your timing so that everything feels relaxed and not rushed—this makes a huge difference in your overall experience.
Have everyone ready for photos when needed (family, date, friends) to keep things running smoothly.
You’re more than welcome to bring along a few props to elevate your photos and add a personal touch. Items like perfume or cologne, a bouquet of flowers, cigars, or even champagne with glasses can make for beautiful, stylish detail shots and candid moments.
Don’t forget to eat something and stay hydrated—it’s a long and exciting day!
Most importantly, trust the process. You don’t need to worry about a thing—I’ll guide you every step of the way so you can simply enjoy your moment.
Thank you again for choosing Silver Sparrow Photography to capture such a special milestone.
I can’t wait to be part of your day and create memories that you’ll look back on for years to come.
With love,
Kayla
